Marc Staal Injury Update New York Rangers Defenseman Undergoes Surgery For Infection In Ankle

Now, he will be missing time as an unhealthy scratch.

The 13-year veteran will miss two weeks following ankle surgery, the team announced Saturday. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks following the surgery in order to treat an infection in his ankle.

Staal played both ends of a back-to-back against the Red Wings and Hurricanes on Wednesday and Thursday, logging 18:19 and 16:56 TOI respectively.

He has just one goal and one assist on the season with his lone tally marking the first of the season for the Rangers.

His three healthy scratches were the first of his career. Staal is under contract with the Rangers through 2020-21, earning $5.7 million AAV.
